MOTHER SERAPHINA FAROLFI

THE FOUNDRESS

The congregation of the CLARIST FRANCISCAN MISSIONARIES OF THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT was founded by the most reverend Mother Seraphina Farolfi and was officially approved by Rome on May 1, 1898 opening branch houses in various parts of Italy and abroad. Mother Seraphina was born on October 7, 1853 at Tossignano in Italy. At the age of 20 with a teacher training certificate she joined the religious congregation of the FRANCISCAN TERTIARIES of St. Elizabeth at Forli which was a cloistered congregation. Young Francesca was appointed Headmistress of St. Francis School, Forli . She wanted to dedicate fully to the service of the education of the girl children and especially the most abandoned. In a cloistered convent she couldn’t fulfill this dream which had actually paved the way for the birth of C.F.M.S.S in the year 1998. Within a span of 3 years as her zeal was so intense, her dream reached a far off land like India and in February 1901 the first convent took shape in Meerut. She insisted a teacher to study the character and capacity of each child and direct him/her to the path of truth and goodness. Mother Seraphina was truly a mother, a model to be imitated by an educat or in any century.
